Plymouth Argyle 2-1 Doncaster Rovers: 250 word match report

A much improved performance, taking the lead for the third game straight; the signs of recovery could be seen at Home Park, but so could yet another way to snatch defeat from a decent point.

Not for the first time this season Rovers had Pontus Dahlberg to thank for going in at half-time level; the ‘keeper sticking up a big arm when Luke Jephcott, in one on one, attempted to chip him.

In the second half, Dahlberg also had a hand in Rovers going ahead; launching a quick counter attack from Argyle pressure which led to the ball being switched to Jordy Hiwula advancing in space on the left. The winger controlled the ball on his right, and nudged it beyond the goalkeeper with his left to open the scoring.

But then when you’re bottom of the table it never rains but it pours, and Rovers would surrender their lead by offering up not one, but two penalties to the home side. First Kyle Knoyle made an unnecessary slide as Plymouth cut in from the left; Jephcott just squeezing the spot-kick over the line, as Dahlberg touched it onto the post.

Then, in injury time, Dahlburg fumbled a cross, and his attempt to gather the ball back in bundled Kieran Agard to the floor. With Jephcott removed, ex-Rover Conor Grant took over penalty duty and secured the three points for the hosts.
