After successive away wins Rovers wrapped themselves in a nice fluffy blanket, hit the snooze button and went to sleep. Sadly they were three down before realising the ringing in the background was the alarm going off and they needed to get up and go to work.
Whilst at Yeovil Rovers had defied mathematical logic to win every 50-50 ball, here they dozily staggered around and were undone by a clinical but dull Port Vale.
Two goals came from corners presented to Vale through a familiar mix of bad luck and comic ineptitude, with a neat finish sandwiched between them.
Rovers showed some spark in the first half, with Harry Forrester looking bright but half time couldn’t come quick enough. Paul Dickov threw a bone to the pitchfork-wielding mob by substituting Dean Furman for Marc De Val, and Nathan Tyson for Theo Robinson. Formation remained the favoured Dickov 4-1-1-1-1-1-1.
Main, injured, was replaced by fan’s favourite Kyle Bennett to gamble with an adventurous 4-1-1-1-1-2. Rovers huffed and puffed but were limited to shots from range, however Bennett scored from one with 15 minutes left.
Then Forrester burst into the box and, being dragged down by a defender, reached to touch the loose ball, with the resultant waft of air from his boot towards the keeper causing a minor melee. The referee, having consulted his linesman, gave Forrester a dubious red card.
Jones obligatory MOTM and De Val especially bright.
Someone please set the alarm clock 45 minutes earlier on Tuesday.
