I read an article this week about how a huge FBI raid has led to a worldwide shortage of LSD. On the evidence of the Bristol City away kit, there’s still plenty knocking about in the South West.
However, for the vast majority of this FA Cup 4th round tie it wasn’t the purple and green garb of the visitors that dazzled. Strangely, for a home game, it was Rovers.
Quick, confident, constant passing opened up the League One frontrunners like a tin of cheap beans. Rovers’ only problem was around the box, lacking nous and incision, there were few clear goalscoring opportunities. The first half ended frustratingly goalless.
Finally in the 49th minute, a crowded Bristol penalty box spat the ball out to Luke McCullogh who caught a sweet spot and hooked it in for the lead. Surely now we would kick on and wrap this one up.
Sadly, Rovers gonna Rover and the 4th round will have to wait. A rare sleepy moment at the back gave a soft headed equaliser to Matt Smith on 75 minutes.
Despite late efforts, Rovers disappointingly didn’t dispatch City as they deserved. Bright performances belied the gloomy weather, Dean Furman, Harry Forrester and even Paul Keegan all shone.
Whatever the outcome at Ashton Gate on the 13th, the home hoodoo may well have gone, giving the red and white hooped faithful much to look forward to.
