Rovers travelled to the land of rugby league and pies to take on one of the pre-season favourites – Wigan. The Sunday start seemed to confuse the locals, who appeared to forget to turn up. There’s something gloriously Rovers about trying unsuccessfully to score for 90 minutes, before finding the back of the net the one time you don’t intend to. The length of time Harry Forrester had to spend protesting his innocence to Bury’s players, after his punt back to Christian Walton had sailed over the ‘keeper’s head, really belied Rovers ineffectuality in the final third to that point. The problem with paint drying is that it’s hard to know what you are going to get. You’ve painted the fireplace wall and returned after supper to find it is bone dry, but take the same paint with a matt finish and apply it to the upstairs bathroom and all of a sudden you’re left red faced with paint all over your paws.
