Doncaster Rovers 1-0 Morecambe: 250 word match report

Doncaster Rovers take a short corner in their League One victory over Wycombe Wanderers at Keepmoat Stadium

Finally, Morecambe brings us sunshine, and a much needed first win of the season, and hopefully the start of a brand new bright tomorrow.

When Pontus Dahlberg bundled the ball into his own net at Accrington, many fans feared the worst from Rovers on-loan goalkeeper. Thankfully he’s gone on to prove that was very much a blip, and that the first half here ended goalless was very much down to Dahlberg, who kept the Shrimpers at bay with a couple of fine saves.

Having weathered the first half, Rovers edged forward in the second and Tommy Rowe was unlucky not to see his low drive from a corner cleared away off the line. The full-back, for that’s what he apparently now is, would however fare better ten minutes from time. This time Rowe met Ben Close’s set-piece with his head to guide it into the top corner and put Rovers a goal to the good.

Late in the game Tom Anderson got lost under a high ball, allowing Cole Stockton to nip in. But just as the Morecambe man seemed destined to equalise with his first-time strike, Dahlberg again got down low and stuck out a big Swedish right paw to secure the three points. All hail our new Scandinavian saviour.
