It’s been a long old month or so at Rovers; disappointing defeats, frustrating draws, injuries to key players. But just as you may’ve been about to lose hope Tuesday came with some welcome cheer. Yep, issue 99 of popular STAND fanzine had been successfully sent off to the printers. Oh, and Rovers beat Bristol Rovers 4-1. Again.

Football and Food – an understated connection

As anyone who has ever read one of my match reports for this publication will attest, food and football have long enjoyed an intimate relationship in my life. I care as much about the weight of a Cornish Pasty in Plymouth, the meat to mash ratio of the Craven Cottage cottage pie in Fulham or the white béchamel sauce in Middlesbrough’s famed Parmo as I do about the actual game itself, and it’s a connection others tend not to appreciate.

Had this match been played out exclusively in the parts of the pitch that weren’t penalty area Rovers could be hugely satisfied, having moved the ball with a confidence that belied the divisional gap. But football doesn’t work that way and in the two 18-yard-boxes the clinical difference told; despite winning a dozen corners Rovers failed to test Wayne Hennessey, Palace were ruthless. Not only has Doncaster Rovers’ best FA Cup run in over 60 years brought excitement to the town, it’s also managed to bring three of our regular contributors around a microphone for an hour.
